The new boarding school, on the site of the foundation of the Milanese universities, establishes precise spatial relationships with both the urban context and the surrounding park. The new volume was modelled as a narrow body extending across almost the entire area with a pronounced fold roughly at its middle, generating different outdoor spaces: to the north-west the opening towards the road emphasises a new central entrance, while to the west the concave part generates a kind of clearing within the park.
For the construction, a mixed structure was chosen: a base in cast-in-place concrete with precast floors and the upper structure in X-lam, allowing rapid construction and cost reduction. The whole building, except the base, is clad with light timber battens that allow perfect integration within the park.
