The project concerns the renovation and extension of the Geoparc Bletterbach visitor centre in Aldino. The functional programme was organised into homogeneous, interconnected areas, imagining the route through the exhibition spaces as a stretch of the geological trail from the wood to the gorge. The extension is built with rammed-earth walls cast in place; the system generates an assonance with the stratification of the Bletterbach rocks, making the setting times of the mix visible and showing the imprint of the formwork.
The extension provides a contained joining on the north side of the existing structure and, on the west front, five simple rectangular volumes differing in size and height, in a sequence that generates two patios. The exhibition hall dedicated to the Bletterbach is marked by a large horizontal window that projects the visitor into the wood, a changing backdrop for the finds, dissolving the diaphragm between inside and outside.
